Face ID

By the Silock TeamUpdated

The short answer

Silock can open with Face ID, or Touch ID on iPhones that have it. It's optional, you can turn it on or off at any time in Settings, and it never opens a silo that has its own password.

Typing a long password every time you open Silock gets old. Face ID makes it a glance: open Silock and it checks your face straight away.

Turning it on

You can switch Face ID on during setup, or later in Settings, and switch it off again whenever you like. On iPhones with a Home button, Silock uses Touch ID instead.

Your PIN, password or pattern always works too.

The honest trade-off

Face ID is convenient, and that cuts both ways: someone could hold your iPhone up to your face. That’s why Face ID in Silock:

  • opens Silock itself, and every silo without its own password;
  • never opens a silo with its own password. Those always ask for the password.

So use Face ID for speed, and give anything you’d need to protect under pressure a silo password.

Your face stays with iOS

Silock never sees your face or any face data. iOS does the check and only tells Silock whether it matched.

Questions people ask

Does Silock see my face?

No. iOS checks your face itself and only tells Silock whether it matched. Silock never receives any face data.

Can I use Face ID and still have a PIN?

Yes. Your PIN, password or pattern always works too, and it's what Silock asks for if Face ID doesn't match.

Should I use Face ID for everything?

Use it for convenience, and put anything that needs protecting under pressure in a silo with its own password. Face ID never opens those.
