Silos

Most people don’t have one kind of private photo. There are travel documents, pictures of the kids you’d rather not have in a shared library, screenshots of a dispute, medical records, a surprise you’re planning. Putting all of that in one hidden album makes it harder to find things and easier to show the wrong thing.

Silock keeps them apart. Each silo is its own encrypted space, with its own name and color, on one home screen that only appears after you unlock the app.

What you can do with a silo

• Name it anything you like: Travel, Family, Documents, or something only you understand.
• Give it a color, so you can find it at a glance.
• Blur its name on the home screen, so someone looking over your shoulder sees a colored card and nothing else.
• Arrange your silos in the order that suits you.
• Add a password of its own, so even someone who knows your Silock unlock can’t open it. See silo passwords.

What stays hidden

The list of silos is encrypted like everything else. Before Silock is unlocked, nothing on screen hints at what you keep or how many silos there are. The unlock screen is the same for everyone.

Inside a silo, every photo, video and document is encrypted on your iPhone before it’s saved, along with its name, date and thumbnail. You can read how that works in plain words.

How to make a silo

1. Unlock Silock.
2. Tap the + card on the home screen.
3. Give the silo a name and choose whether it needs a password of its own.
4. Open it and add photos, videos or files.
